Brazil player ratings vs Peru: Raphinha is back on the ball! Barcelona man in double as Selecao cruise to World Cup qualifying victory

The oft-criticized winger scored a brace to secure a comfortable win for Dorival Jr.'s side

For most of his time as Brazil coach, Dorival Jr. faced questions about his attacking setup. He might have found an answer on Tuesday. Raphinha, who got off to a bright start for his club, also provided for his country, scoring twice and proving a constant threat in a comfortable 4-0 win over Peru.

The Barcelona player scored a brace before two late goals ended the game and gave Brazil their second win in a row.

It was a tough battle for much of the game, with Peru doing their best to stop the Brazilian attacks before they began – with numerous tackles from both sides. Raphinha opened the scoring just before half-time, converting from the penalty spot after a lengthy VAR review revealed a Peruvian defender had handled the ball in the penalty area. Rodrygo could have scored the second goal after 43 minutes, but his chip was easily saved by the goalkeeper.

The Barcelona player scored the second goal from the penalty spot at the start of the second half – this time from a far less controversial penalty.

However, Andreas Pereira gave the Selecao the lead with a beautiful flying volley, directing Luiz Henrique's cross into the bottom corner. Moments later, Henrique grabbed a ball of his own and strolled into the space offered by the open Peru defense – before sending the ball into the bottom corner. Things aren't perfect for Dorival – there are still plenty of problems. But back-to-back wins will at least ease the pressure, albeit temporarily.
