Live Updates: Trump in Florida for town hall as Harris conducts interview with Fox News

President Joe Biden acknowledged Tuesday that Kamala Harris would not act as a carbon copy of his own administration, giving a tacit nod to a key challenge facing his vice president as she enters the final stretch of her campaign: How can she differentiate herself from his record?

During what has become a rare campaign stop for the incumbent, Biden said Harris' past loyalty to him doesn't mean she won't go her own way.

“Donald Trump’s perspective,” he added, “is old and failed and, frankly, completely dishonest.”

The comments illustrate part of the balancing act that Biden and Harris are each attempting as she faces some pressure to differentiate herself from the current president.

After declaring in September that he would be “on the road” from Labor Day, Biden's campaign schedule this fall has been strikingly thin – hampered in part by a series of pressing domestic and foreign crises that required his attention, but also complicated through which he feels his presence on the trail could remind voters of the side Harris is trying to take.

Tuesday's event – a ticketed dinner to raise money for Democrats in Philadelphia – was one of the president's few political appearances since Harris secured the Democratic nomination.

“I am one of the few people in American history to have served as vice president and president,” Biden said as he stood in front of signs bearing the name “Kamala.”

“And I know both jobs, know what they require, and I can tell you, Kamala Harris was a great vice president. She will also be a great president,” he said.

With less than three weeks to go before the election, the campaign and the White House have yet to detail what Biden's campaign plan will look like through November 5th. One planned operation, according to a source close to the campaign, is a tour of Pennsylvania with the state's governor, Josh Shapiro. Biden himself predicted such a turnaround in an interview weeks ago.
