Meta has reorganized some of its key business areas and eliminated some roles

Meta said on Wednesday that it had reorganized some of its largest companies, eliminating some roles in units such as Instagram, Reality Labs and WhatsApp.

It is unclear how many roles were affected.

A spokesman said in a statement that Meta was looking to fill employees whose positions were eliminated.

“Today, some teams at Meta are making changes to ensure resources are aligned with their long-term strategic goals and site strategy,” the spokesperson said. “This includes moving some teams to other locations and moving some employees to other roles.”

Jane Manchun Wong, a former Meta employee, said in a social media post on Wednesday that her role had been compromised. According to her LinkedIn, Wong was a security engineer at the company.

“I'm still trying to process this, but my role at Meta is affected. Thank you everyone for my wild journey at Meta,” she said.

Wong did not respond to a request for comment from BI.

Meta has experienced several rounds of layoffs in recent years. CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously said the company's pursuit of “efficiency” would be here to stay.

As of March, Meta had cut 22% of its workforce since the company's first mass layoff in late 2022, BI previously reported.

According to the filings, the company's membership has increased in recent years from about 45,000 at the end of 2019 to about 70,000 as of June 30.
