Former NFL QB Jay Cutler was arrested on drunk driving and weapons charges after a minor accident in Tennessee

According to Franklin police, former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested Thursday after a minor accident in downtown Franklin, Tennessee.

Cutler, 41, was charged with driving under the influence, possession of a handgun under the influence, failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision and implied consent, according to a news release.

According to a Williamson County affidavit, officers responded to Bridge Street and 2nd Avenue North after a crash was reported around 5 p.m. At the scene, the driver of a GMC told them that a man driving a White Ram truck had rear-ended his vehicle and offered $2,000 if he didn't call the police before attempting to escape.

An officer spoke with Cutler, who said he allegedly smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, was staggering, swaying and slurring his words, the affidavit states. Cutler also refused to perform a standardized field sobriety test.

Cutler was taken into custody by police and a blood search warrant was obtained at a nearby medical center. A search of Cutler's car allegedly found a rifle in the back and a loaded handgun in the center console.

According to police, Cutler was taken to the Williamson County Jail and released on $5,000 bail. According to the affidavit, Cutler was released on the condition that he not drive cars without an ignition interlock device – which measures breath alcohol content – or while under the influence of alcohol.

A representative for Cutler did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Cutler is best known for his 12-year NFL career, most of which was spent with the Chicago Bears. He was also married to reality TV star Kristin Cavallari before they divorced in 2020 and appeared on the show “Very Cavallari,” which premiered in 2018 and focused on Cavallari's business ventures as well as her family.

Cutler and Cavallari have three children together, two boys and a girl.
