When will the Chiefs lose again? Kansas City's upcoming schedule as the win streak reaches 12 for the NFL's last undefeated team

The Chiefs have looked vulnerable at almost every turn this season, but the result at the end of 48 minutes is all that matters. In this category, Kansas City is flawless.

After the Vikings' narrow loss to the Lions on Sunday, the Chiefs were the NFL's only undefeated players, and Kansas City took care of business in a Super Bowl rematch with the 49ers hours later to ensure that remained the case for at least another week stays like that.

If it feels like the Chiefs just won't lose anymore, that's because they don't. It's been nearly 10 months since Kansas City's last loss, despite a string of close games and exciting results.

Here's what you need to know about the Chiefs' winning streak and when it might end.

Chiefs winning streak

The Chiefs' winning streak is officially eight, as the NFL record books count the regular season for that purpose only, but in reality it is twelve. Kansas City has won 12 straight games since Week 17 of last season.

A Christmas loss to the Raiders, who lost Aidan O'Connell at QB and fired both their head coach and general manager midway through the season, appeared to be the low point for the Chiefs in 2023. Not only did it ensure that Kansas City wouldn't suffer a first-round bye to open the playoffs, but it confirmed in many minds that these Chiefs simply didn't have enough offense to defend their championship.

That was of course wrong. It was rock bottom, but the Chiefs recovered so well that they haven't lost since that day. Kansas City finished the season with back-to-back wins – one against Jake Browning and the Bengals, another against the Chargers, without playing most of their key starters – and won one close game after another in the playoffs, claiming one another Lombardi Trophy.

Six games into 2024 the results were similar. The games are close, the offense leaves a lot to be desired, but the wins are there. For Patrick Mahomes, that's all that matters.

When will the Chiefs lose?

The Chiefs don't necessarily look like world champions, but if they haven't lost yet, when will they?

A matchup with an unlucky Raiders team in Week 8 doesn't seem like a serious challenge, even if Antonio Pierce knows how to play against Andy Reid. The Chiefs host the Buccaneers in Week 9 and might have a hard time keeping up with Baker Mayfield's hot offense, but Tampa Bay's defense has struggled and home-field advantage will make Kansas City at least a moderate favorite.

It's hard to imagine Bo Nix performing well against the Chiefs' defense at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 10. If the Chiefs do indeed get to 9-0, the toughest test remaining on their schedule could be a Week 11 date with the Bills in Buffalo. Kansas City has the Bills' number in the playoffs, but Buffalo actually won three straight regular-season meetings with the Chiefs – all three on the road.

With Amari Cooper, the Bills now have what it takes to give the Chiefs a serious challenge in the regular season.

However, if the Chiefs make it to 10-0, consider what it might take to go the distance. The Panthers, Raiders, Chargers, Browns and Broncos account for five of Kansas City's last seven games. A home game with the Texans followed by a date with the Steelers in Pittsburgh on Christmas are two of the more difficult games, but it's not worth dwelling on the Chiefs' chances yet since those games are two months away.

Here's a complete look at the Chiefs' remaining schedule.
