Jensen Ackles' return for season two, more about Colter and Russell's father

(Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for tracker Season 2, Episode 2 “Ontological Shock.”)

When Colter (Justin Hartley) goes missing while searching for a missing person, his team enlists the help of his brother Russell (Jensen Ackles) – and the episode gets worse tracker Secret about her father. (And yes, like his first episode, there are many moments that remind us of Ackles Supernatural.)

Colter's newest client is worried after her father Scott (Steven Culp), obsessed with government conspiracies, disappears after claiming he was being followed. He also harassed an astrophysics professor whose husband took out a restraining order against him. But at least one of the calls lasted 10 minutes. Professor Blair (April Parker Shaw) says Scott has interesting ideas; You had talked about UAPs (unidentified anomalous phenomena, similar to UFOs), but there is a stigma, especially in science. She's clearly afraid of something when Colter talks to her, but doesn't want to talk about it.

Colter goes to the last known location of Scott's car and finds it – but then his call to Bobby (Eric Graise) is interrupted. Numbers appear on his phone screen (the same thing happened to Scott earlier), then a light appears above him…

When there's no word from Colter for 12 hours, Reenie (Fiona Rene) calls for Plan B, even as Velma (Abby McEnany) warns he won't be happy. But where is Colter? At some government facility, tied to a bed after invading a secure Department of Defense facility. The man who held him claims that the land where Colter was was full of unexploded ordinates. He then watches from the security room as Colter frees himself from his bonds; He tells another man to let him have fun while talking on the phone. They're still on schedule, says the first man… as someone sneaks around behind him: Russell. Then Colter's brother finds him and the two make their way outside.

Russell was nearby cleaning up a mess, he says, so he made a few calls. (Colter asks if Russell and Reenie are friends on the phone, and his brother says she keeps dodging his dinner invitations, even though he thinks this rescue might get him a date.) Russell also claims something about UAPs to know”. “Oh, brother, what did I see? “I’d blow your hair back, that’s all I’ll say,” he says. He even suggests that aliens may have taken Scott, remembering their father showing them the lights in the sky and him pointing to the spaceship on Colter's pajamas. Colter doesn't remember it.

Colter believes he was fired intentionally; The “escape” was too easy. Those holding him want him to find Scott for them. Russell smashes Colter's phone (removing the SIM card isn't careful enough) and examines his brother's neck. There's a tracker inside him, and Russell cuts it out. Colter puts it in his phone and throws it into a field.

Colter and Russell then go to Blair, who speaks reluctantly: They believe the numbers that appeared on Scott and Colter's phones were a form of communication and have been trying to decipher the messages. It turns out they are coordinates, and while Colter and Russell go to see if Scott is there, Blair packs to leave town – only to be stopped by the man who killed Colter took with him. (Her body is later found, looking like a suicide bomber.)

As soon as he approaches the construction site, Colter throws away Russell's phone because it is Reenie's call; Whoever is chasing him could come across her and then her signal. The brothers separated when a surge was announced in 10 minutes. Russell meets the man who kidnapped Colter – and he reveals that he knows about the Shaws, including their father. “They have a long family tradition of getting in the way of the government,” he says. “What, you think I don’t know who you are?”

Russell tells him he knows what's going on locally: they sent out cosmic Morse code and someone responded, right? And the landing pad out there is intended for an alien meeting. The man says he has no idea what he's talking about. Although the man warns Russell that he will kill him if he takes another step, the announcement of T-minus three minutes distracts him, and Russell effortlessly grabs the gun and knocks him unconscious. Then he takes something out of a cupboard.

Meanwhile, Colter finds Scott, who wants to stay to see whatever comes. He argues that he can't keep this secret to himself. But Colter tells him that there are some secrets that aren't worth dying for and reminds him of his daughter. But before they can leave, the alarm sounds, something happens outside, there is a bright fire and the room shakes. As soon as it stops, they leave, meet up with Russell and rush away from the site. Both Colter and Russell draw their guns as a van approaches them on the street, but it is only the help Reenie called for them.

After Scott and his daughter are reunited, Russell shows Colter – who still doesn't believe – what he took with him: a type of alloy that he believes could be part of a craft. He has a man who does the tests for him. As they get into Russell's car, Colter says he wouldn't mind getting behind the wheel. “That will never happen” dean Russell says.

He then tells Colter that this man knows about her father. Colter wonders if it's more than just a “textbook spooky maneuver” where you drop a crumb and see where it goes, given the box of her father's things that her sister Dory (Melissa Roxburgh) and which she never told either of them about. Russell thinks she just didn't want him to go down a rabbit hole.

Russell leaves Colter on the side of the road to go to his truck in the woods. “This baby doesn’t ride on gravel,” he explains. Sure to pick him up from the black side beforehand (“It was an emergency”), but that’s different. He traveled to Colorado to pick up Colter on the date Reenie promised to rescue him. He'll see him when he sees him. We hope that happens sooner rather than later.
