Nashville's Power Play Spot; Toronto's dominance; The new (old) top line in Los Angeles – DobberHockey

Hello everyone and welcome back to DFS Tuesdays! We have a massive NBA Opening Night matchup coming up tonight. Stay hot, NHL. This is a fun list though, not only because of the sheer number of teams in action, but also because some of these matchups are interesting. There will also be a lot of away favorites here tonight, which is always a little harder to assess, but I think we can take advantage of a few spots in tournaments here tonight.

Slate preview

Boston vs. Nashville

You didn't think I would start, did you? Nashville hasn't won a game yet this season and as much as I believe trends are your friends, I kind of like this place for them in this game. Pssst… we have to keep it quiet here when we talk about Boston… but honestly, they haven't looked great to start the season and this is the team that has conceded the most penalties in the NHL so far. Granted, Nashville's power play wasn't stellar and Boston's kill was, but if I'm looking for a way to score points on this list, I don't mind picking up parts of this Nashville PP.

If you're looking to play the Preds tonight, one way to build might be to take all four wingers in the top six for a 4-3-1 setup to your lineup, and with the squad size as it is , I think you can get away with it and find cheaper fillers. Jonathan Marchessault ($5,800), Steven Stamkos ($6,400), Filip Forsberg ($7,800) and Gustav Nyquist ($3,900) total $23,900, but there are opportunities to be different tonight. If you want to move past Nyquist and find a cheaper option, this is certainly a good spot for this top 6.

For Boston, it would only be a David Pastrnak one-off ($9,000) for me, and it's expensive to fit into the lineup on any given night. I'm not sure if the way I build suits him, but I will never say no to playing an elite winger if you want to build your lineup that way tonight.

Vancouver vs. Chicago

The mission against Chicago, wow, how original, right? But the fact is, this is a Vancouver team whose roster count has never been that high, and with Toronto, Colorado and Edmonton on the list tonight, I think they might just be overlooked. Another fun little highlight here: The Vancouver Canucks have beaten the Hawks 9 of their last 10 games. Lead vocals from Rooney: “Nine times!”

However, with this Canucks roster, I would really only want to target the line of JT Miller ($6,600) and Brock Boeser ($6,900). JT Miller is listed as DTD. So if he ends up playing then that's great and maybe the DTD designation will force people to avoid him. We'll have to wait for news on that front, but this two-man would be what I'd be targeting here. As for the lines further down or the blue line, I think there are plenty of cheaper options that I'd rather go with.

As for Chicago, I'm not particularly interested in the forwards here, and we'll get to the defensemen and goalies a little later. Connor Bedard ($8,200) would be the obvious choice here, and this would really only be a one-time opportunity in larger tournaments. I don't think I'll come to Chicago with a single or three-person group.

Toronto vs. Columbus

Yes, the Leafs played last night, but right now Matthews' top line may be one of the most productive lines in the NHL. Maybe we don't think about it too much tonight and just play the best variations? Shouldn't we be doing this anyway? This gets expensive quickly, so if you just want to take an Auston Matthews ($9,400) and a Mitch Marner ($6,500), that's fine, but I wouldn't play this as a one-off Matthews. There will be so many people in tournaments tonight that will highlight either him, Connor McDavid or Nathan MacKinnon in the middle that I don't really think you would make a difference here using Matthews as a singles player.

For Columbus, they're likely to miss out, and here's why: This is a club that has become increasingly popular over the last week. Don't get me wrong, it's justified as the top team was good at the start of the season, but I could see this group becoming a popular force as Toronto welcomes them back to back-to-back games.

Los Angeles vs. Vegas

Do you want to stay up all night to see whether you get cash or not? If so, come to me, my friends! I can see reasons to play both sides, but in this case I'm leaning towards the Los Angeles side. The top line of Quinton Byfield ($4,200), Anze Kopitar ($7,100) and Adrian Kempe ($7,200) is a good game tonight, but I'm almost inclined to take single shots here in LA, even if it means the correlation on the power play is lost. Vegas leader Jack Eichel has the third-highest xGoals against per 60 minutes and when it's Adin Hill in net, he currently has the second-lowest GSAA in the league.

Looking at Vegas, there's nothing wrong with playing parts of that club, but I watched their last game against Florida and they looked completely out of sorts on the power play. The only reason I would consider them is if I'm playing in a larger tournament and playing multiple lineups, with Vegas at home being a completely different animal in a positive sense than them on the road.

defender

Cale Makar ($8,800) is your leader tonight and if I play him I need to have some kind of Colorado stack in MMEs with a decent amount of filler stacks. Adam Fox ($6,600) catches my eye when playing against the Rangers, but I've always felt like you don't have to spend that much on a defenseman on big teams. Brandt Clarke ($4,700), block god Mario Ferraro ($4,300), Neal Pionk ($4,000) and Oliver Ekman-Larsson are all good mid-range players, and for cheap options there's Esa Lindell ($3,300) and Alex Vlasic ($3). k) offer good value for money.

goalkeeper

If I'm going to pay anything tonight, it would only be for Jake Oettinger ($8,200), and I could also be persuaded to go for Ilya Sorokin ($8,100). Don't try to tempt me with a good time against the Islanders, and this is a club that missed enough chances that Sorokin could see some volume tonight. I will always and forever circle Connor Hellebuyck and in all likelihood blindly add him to my $7,600 list, but wouldn't go too much further down today to find my starter.
