“People shouldn’t be afraid to express their opinions”

Eminem made brief remarks at a Kamala Harris rally in Detroit this evening, speaking of people's fear of retaliation for expressing their opinions and his belief that it would protect free speech.

On stage to introduce former President Barack Obama, Eminem told The Can that he attended the event “for several important reasons.”

“As most of you know, the city of Detroit and the home state of Michigan mean a lot to me,” he said. “And in this election we are in the spotlight more than ever, and I think it's important to use your voice. That’s why I encourage everyone to get out and vote.”

He added: “I also think that people shouldn't be afraid to express their opinions, and I don't think anyone wants an America where people are afraid of retaliation and what people will do, when you express your opinion.”

“I think Vice President Harris supports a future for this country in which these and many other freedoms are protected and preserved.”

The Harris campaign has tapped celebrities for campaign appearances, with Bruce Springsteen scheduled to appear at a rally in Atlanta on Thursday and an event in Philadelphia on Monday. Earlier in the day, actor Bradley Whitford appeared at an event with Harris' running mate Tim Walz. Earlier this month, Julia Roberts campaigned for Harris in Georgia.
