Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield will not be penalized after using Zyn on the sideline

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield had a solid game against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, throwing three touchdowns against two interceptions.

However, Mayfield made headlines for both his performances on the sidelines and his on-field performances. With the Buccaneers trailing the Ravens 17-10 in the third quarter, Mayfield was shown courtside putting a product in his mouth that looked very similar to a Zyn nicotine pouch.

According to a report from ESPN's Jenna Laine on Friday morning, Mayfield actually used Zyn on the sidelines during a game — but won't face any discipline for it.

“Zyn is a nicotine product and nicotine is banned by the NFL on the sidelines and in interviews. He will receive a letter reminding him of this,” Laine wrote on social media.

Zyn, an addictive tobacco-free nicotine pouch from tobacco company Swedish Match, has exploded in popularity in the United States in recent years – so much so that the country faced a shortage earlier this year.

Mayfield and Tampa Bay play the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
