James Franco talks about his relationship with Seth Rogan

Actor James Franco admits he's still estranged from his old friend and colleague Seth Rogan, but “not for lack of trying” on his part.

“NO. I haven't spoken to Seth,” Franco told Variety while promoting his latest film “Hey Joe” at the Rome Film Festival. “I love Seth, we had 20 great years together, but I think it is over. And not for lack of trying. I told him how much he meant to me.”

Still, Franco has no regrets about being “canceled” by Rogan or the rest of Hollywood.

“I mean, it is what it is. I’m honestly over it,” Franco said. “(The legal issues were) resolved and I was able to change. So that’s it, it’s over.”

Franco and Rogan have worked together on various projects over their decades in Hollywood, including the television series “Freaks And Geeks” and films such as “Pineapple Express” and “The Interview.” But Franco's career took a nosedive in 2021 when he was accused of sexual misconduct with two students in his acting class.

Franco agreed to pay $2.2 million to settle the resulting lawsuit, but the allegations affected his relationship with Rogan. In 2018, immediately after the allegations, Rogen said he would stick by Franco, but in 2021 he said he was no longer working with his friend.

“The truth is I haven’t done it and I don’t plan to at the moment,” Rogen told the Sunday Times.

In that interview, he admitted that the accusations against Franco had affected their friendship, but also refused to say with certainty that the relationship was over.

“I don't know if I can define it now during this interview. I can say that it … changed a lot of things in our relationship and our dynamic,” Rogan said.
