The USC Board of Trustees approves the request to begin redesigning Williams-Brice Stadium

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – The renovation of Williams-Brice Stadium will soon take a big step after the University of South Carolina Board of Trustees approved a proposal to begin improvements.

Officials say the approval comes after a year of developing a master plan for Williams-Brice Stadium in collaboration between the Department of Athletics and the university.

“Today is a significant day for our institution,” said Board of Trustees Chairman Thad H. Westbrook. “I hope this is the start of many great milestones that lie ahead as we realize this incredibly transformative vision for athletics and our football program that will impact every area of our university and the region.”

Phase one of the project will focus on the design of the west and east sides of the stadium.

The initial plans include premium suites and the installation of club seats. Gamecock Club development staff say they will begin meeting with potential suite buyers immediately.

The redevelopment of Williams-Brice Stadium comes amid ongoing efforts to hire a developer to create a retail, dining and lodging district near the stadium.

“These improvements will also make our stadium more attractive for additional sporting and entertainment events, which could further increase USC's economic impact in Columbia and the Midlands,” said school President Michael Amiridis.

Construction for Phase 1 is expected to be completed before the start of the 2027 football season. USC officials say they do not expect games to be moved from the stadium because of construction.
