Texas Tech suffered a serious injury in Saturday's game against Texas Tech TCU Horned Frogs. Starting quarterback Behren Morton had an injury to his left shoulder, according to the FOX broadcast. He left the game at the start of the second half and went to the locker room. Morton was seen leaving the field with trainers and medical staff. He had a towel over his head and no padding left.

Late in the third quarter, the FOX broadcast updated his status and noted that he will not be returning to the game at all on Saturday. Morton was not dressed when he returned to the Red Raiders sideline late in the third quarter.

Update on Texas Tech QB Behren Morton's injury

“Yes, it appears Behren Morton was injured late in the first half. He injured his shoulder. That's all I was really told about the injury. But I can tell you the frustration I saw when he left the field just screaming in anger at the injury. Honestly, the team is doing fine without him. He's on the sidelines. Of course he wants to support his boys out there. He will not be returning to the game,” FOX’s sideline reporter noted.

Morton has performed exceptionally well for the Red Raiders this season, completing 63.7% of his passes for 1,926 yards while throwing 17 touchdowns with three interceptions. In 2023, he completed 62.1% of his passes for 1,754 yards while throwing 15 touchdowns with eight interceptions.

In the 2021 cycle, Morton was ranked as the No. 15 quarterback prospect in America according to On3 Industry Rankings.

Freshman QB Will Hammond looked great

Will Hammond is now in the game for Texas Tech. He threw one absolutely beautiful ball to put the Red Raiders up against the Horned Frogs 24-14. Hammond also ran for a touchdown.

The game is currently in the second half and will be nationally televised on FOX.

Luckily for the Red Raiders, Hammond looked strong and had very little time to warm up in the second half.

He was one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the country coming out of high school, and he has the statistical profile to prove it. Hammond attended Hutto High School (Austin, Texas) and totaled more than 8,700 passing yards and 84 touchdowns during his prep career. He also powered one of the best offensive attacks in the country, recording 2,344 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns on the ground as a dual-threat.

In his senior year, Hammond completed 61.3% of his passes for 3,901 yards and 35 touchdowns while rushing for an additional 1,077 yards and 19 touchdowns. He was named one of ten finalists for the Mr. Texas Football High School Player of the Year.

In the 2024 cycle, Hammond was named the 11th overall quarterback in America, according to the US newspaper On3 industry rankings. Not only was he an Elite 11 finalist, but Hammond also rushed for 807 yards and 10 scores in a game. It ended in an 82-80 loss to Liberty Hill (Texas) High.
