The Canucks defeated the struggling Penguins 4-3 and scored a goal in the second period

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Arshdeep Bains scored the first goal of his NHL career and the Vancouver Canucks scored four goals in less than six minutes for a 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

Elias Pettersson scored the first goal of a quick four-goal series midway through the second period after the Penguins took a 2-0 lead.

Kiefer Sherwood and JT Miller scored before Bains put the puck in the net to cap the run. Bains' goal secured Vancouver (4-1-2) after Evgeni Malkin scored in the third period.

Malkin also had two assists for the Penguins (3-6-1), while Anthony Beauvillier contributed a goal and an assist. Bryan Rust rounded off the rankings.

Goaltender Kevin Lankinen stopped 21 shots for the Canucks and Alex Nedeljkovic saved 30 for Pittsburgh.

Canucks: The team's strength was evident in the second round when each of its four lines scored over a six-minute period. Ten Vancouver players contributed either a goal or an assist, none of whom scored multiple points.

Penguins: The visitors were the dominant team in the first period, with Beauvillier leading 7:48. But Pittsburgh's offense faltered after that and the Penguins lost 34-23.

With the Canucks trailing 2-0 early in the second period, Pettersson fired a shot over Nedeljkovic from the faceoff circle, putting Vancouver on the board at 4:06. The goal was his first of the season and sparked an offensive onslaught that saw the Canucks score three goals in 65 seconds.

Saturday marked the end of a four-game winless road streak for Pittsburgh in Western Canada. The Penguins return home with just one point after a 4-3 overtime loss to the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.

The Canucks continue their three-game homestand against the Hurricanes on Monday, while the Penguins return home to host the Wild on Tuesday.
