Nintendo Switch users warn that the new update will destroy the console

Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo Switch OLED users have been warned by other users that a recent update to the console is causing all sorts of problems. With the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon and slowing down support for the current Nintendo Switch, there's no doubt some Switches are gathering dust on the market. However, if you're still using the Nintendo Switch – be it to play Super Mario Party Jamboree or The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom or another game – you should be wary of the latest firmware update 19.0.0.

Nintendo hasn't confirmed any issues with the Nintendo Switch 19.0.0 update, but on Reddit, more than one Nintendo Switch owner reported anomalies with their device since downloading the update.

According to more than one Switch user, the Nintendo Switch was having trouble warming up even when fully charged and docked hours after use. Because of this, the battery seems to drain faster, probably because it is running hot.

“Since the last update to 19.0.0, has anyone noticed that your Switch stays warm while you sleep, even when left fully charged on the dock for hours after gaming,” the Reddit post reads. “It's like it's no longer able to switch to full sleep mode reliably and consistently. Combined with the heat, it appears that the battery drains faster when not docked because it can no longer truly sleep.”

This issue is being reported not only by many Switch users, but also by owners of all three. This is not just an issue on the standard Nintendo Switch, but there are also reports of the issue on Nintendo Switch OLED and Nintendo Switch Lite.

“I thought I was going crazy. I resorted to complete shutdowns. I was afraid my Switch would give up on me,” reads one of the comments on the post above. “I thought I was losing my mind as both my original V1 Switch and my OLED don't always go to sleep properly (screen off but running) and when I return I find both are dead within a few hours” , adds another comment.

While most reports mention that the issue was noticed after downloading update 19.0.0, others have claimed that the issue has been around for a long time. If this is the case, it could indicate a much larger problem with the Switch hardware or a previous update. Be that as it may, there are enough documented incidents here to suggest that this is not an isolated incident.

At the time of publication, there was no comment from Nintendo on the matter. If this changes, we will be sure to update the story accordingly.
