2024 election updates: Harris counters racist remarks about Puerto Ricans at Trump rally

The former first lady reiterated her passionate message that women's health is at stake in this election in an editorial published Monday by The New York Times.

The editorial included excerpts from her Saturday rally in Michigan in which she criticized Trump's record on the issue compared to Harris and called on men to support the women in their lives. The rally was her first campaign appearance since her speech at the Democratic National Convention this summer.

“I ask you from the bottom of my heart to take our lives seriously,” she said. “Please do not put our lives in the hands of politicians, mostly men, who have no idea or care about what we go through as women, who do not fully understand the far-reaching health impacts their misguided policies have on our health outcomes .”

Despite her stated aversion to partisan politics, the former first lady is stepping up her involvement in the final phase of the 2024 campaign. She will lead a rally in battleground Georgia on Tuesday.
