The No. 1 and No. 2 picks in the 2024 NBA Draft met for the first time this season on Monday when Zaccharie Risacher's Atlanta Hawks took on Alex Sarr's Washington Wizards.

Sarr and the Wizards picked up their first win of the season, defeating the Hawks 121-119.

Although it wasn't the most memorable game for any of the rookies, Sarr easily outperformed Risacher as he totaled seven points and nine rebounds compared to Risacher's four points and three boards.

Although both young players are still clearly finding their game offensively, it was shown on Monday that they are superior defensively. Sarr had a steal and two blocks, while Risacher had two steals and hit two shots.

Defense is a good place to start as they should become more comfortable on offense as they develop naturally.

After the duel, fans were a bit disappointed with the rookie fight, but others noted the potential of the two.

The combination of Sarr-Risacher with 11 points in their first match really fits the overall picture of this draft

Sarr and Risacher only have a few games under their belt, so their slow start is somewhat to be expected. Last year, Victor Wembanyama was the top pick. Monday's match was a good reminder that most rookies need a little time to fully develop, especially two who aren't even 20 years old.

As the season progresses, both Sarr and Risacher are likely to put in some great performances, but for now both have a long way to go.
