White Sox hire Will Venable as next manager

The World Series wasn't the only story in baseball on Tuesday night.

After a historically poor 2024, the White Sox are hiring former big leaguer Will Venable as their next manager, according to multiple reports.

Terms of the deal were not immediately clear.

The news came just minutes after the Yankees completed their Game 4 win over the Dodgers on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.

The Post's Jon Heyman reported last week that Venable, the Rangers' replacement coach, was former Angels manager Phil Nevin and Tigers bench coach George Lombard were among the top candidates for the job.

Venable, who replaces Pedro Grifol, had a nine-year playing career that included stints with the Padres, Dodgers and Rangers.

He has since taken on coaching roles following his playing days, including as a reserve coach with both the Red Sox (2021-22) and Rangers (2022-23).

Last fall, Venable turned down an interview for the Mets' then-opening manager — The Post's Joel Sherman exclusively reported — before they ultimately hired current captain Carlos Mendoza.

Venable inherits a White Sox team that was coming off a 121-loss season, breaking the Mets' 1962 losing record for the worst season in modern MLB history.

Now he will be at the helm as the 44th coach in the team's history and will try to get things back on track.
