The viral New York Yankees fan who was ejected from Game 4 on Tuesday night for interfering with Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts had a real boyfriend in college.

Four-time Super Bowl champion and New England Patriots icon Rob Gronkowski revealed on The Up & Adams Show on Wednesday that he knew Austin Capobianco, who was seen throwing the ball to Betts in the first inning of Tuesday's game ripped out of the glove. The former tight end said they were friends when Gronkowski was at the University of Arizona.

“Here's a little fun fact: That guy that grabbed Mookie Betts' glove was my friend in college,” Gronkowski said. “He was a member of the hockey team, the Arizona Wildcats club team. I can tell you, the entire hockey team was absolutely crazy.”

Gronkowski added that his former friend's actions “represent him very well.”

“He does everything for his teams. He does everything for the Yankees. “I remember him talking about the Yankees all the time, how much he loves him, and that describes him perfectly, just doing whatever it takes to help his team get out,” he added.

Gronkowski congratulated Capobianco on his “shine when the moment came,” but said it was “truly unacceptable” for what he did. He added that he hadn't spoken to him in a while, but he was a “fun guy.” He said more about Capobianco on social media.

The Yankees announced before Game 5 on Wednesday that Capobianco and his friend John Peter would not be allowed to return to the stadium for Game 5, despite telling ESPN that he would be allowed to do so. The Yankees said the fans' behavior was “outrageous and unacceptable.” Capobianco told ESPN after the game that he knew he did something wrong but appeared to show no remorse.

“I patrol the wall and they know it,” Capobianco said.
