Inter Milan's veteran full-back assesses Nerazzurri Scudetto attack: 'It's important to keep up with Napoli'

Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian has urged his teammates to bounce back from a tough weekend and stay close to Napoli in the title race.

Speaking to DAZN ahead of the Empoli game, as reported by FCInterNewsDarmian discussed fatigue as a potential source of problems for the Nerazzurri.

Despite taking the lead twice with 20 minutes left and a two-goal lead, Inter were unable to beat Juventus at home on Sunday.

In fact, Kenan Yildiz's late brace secured the Bianconeri a point in a remarkable 4-4 draw at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Although Darmian wasn't in the starting line-up, Simone Inzaghi has decided to bring him back to Tuscany this evening.

Anything less than three points against Empoli would end Inter's hopes of retaining the Scudetto.

Napoli extended their lead at the top of the Serie A table yesterday with a 2-0 away win against AC Milan.

That's why Inter can't afford a mistake at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.

It hasn't even been 48 times since Inter faced Juventus in an intense Derby d'Italia.

However, the game plan is merciless.

“We didn't have much time to prepare for the game, but we focused on regaining our energy,” Darmian said.

“We are ready for the game tonight.”

Darmian also praised Empoli for their impressive start to the league under Roberto D'Aversa.

“Every game in Serie A is tough. Empoli started the season well and didn't deserve to lose to Napoli.

“They also put in a strong performance against Juventus and played well in several away games.

“You have a well-deserved place at the table. Today's game is crucial for us to keep up with Napoli, who won an important game yesterday.

“But we have to focus on ourselves and continue our journey,” concluded Darmian.
