The young and the restless
Kevin Young was hired as the 19th head coach in program history on April 16, 2024, after spending the previous four seasons with the Phoenix Suns, including the last three as associate head coach under Monty Williams and Frank Vogel. In less than seven months, the first-year head coach has hired a staff and assembled a top-15 recruiting class, including the first five-star recruit in program history in Egor Demin.

The second time is the charm
BYU was ranked ninth in the Big 12 men's basketball poll, the league announced in early October. The Cougars finished fifth last season, their first in the toughest men's basketball league in the country, with a 10-8 record, including ranked wins over Kansas, Iowa State and Baylor.

Last week, Young, along with seniors Trevin Knell and Fousseyni Traore, represented BYU at the Big 12 Media Days at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The trio met with local, regional and national media throughout the day, answering questions ranging from expectations to ZERO.

Good things to come
BYU gave Cougar Nation a glimpse of the upcoming season on Oct. 10 with the annual Blue and White Game.

In the first half, Blue won 49-39, with Keba Keita leading the way with 13 points and six rebounds. Kanon Catchings also reached double figures with 11 points, going 4 of 8 from the field and 2 of 2 from the charity stripe. The second half was shortened to 12 minutes in which White won 32-20 with Richie Saunders finishing with 12 points and going 5 of 7 from the field, including a make from beyond the arc. Demin added three points, four rebounds and four assists.

Previously against Colorado Christian
The two schools last met on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the Marriott Center, a 63-45 win for BYU. The Cougars shot 50.0 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from three and 31.6 percent from the charity stripe in a game in which they led for more than 24 minutes.

Trey Stewart, Knell and Traore all saw action in the win over CCU, combining for eight points. In 17 minutes of play, Traore scored three points, his only attempt from the field, along with a team-high six rebounds.
