The first area of the Saudi Neom Giga project is put into operation

We've seen plenty of crazy renderings and heard big promises, but now Saudi Arabia has finally rolled out the first part of its incredible Neom Giga project. Called Sindalah, it offers a highly exclusive luxury island vacation to a select number of well-heeled guests.

While Sindalah is certainly not as ambitious as other Neom projects such as Line, Treyam or Epicon, it still represents a significant step in Saudi Arabia's plan to transform its oil-dependent economy into one based on tourism. The exclusive island paradise is located 5 km (3.1 miles) from the Saudi mainland coast and measures 83 hectares (207 acres).

Designed by Luca Dini Design & Architecture, the island focuses on an 86-berth marina and yacht club, as well as additional offshore facilities for giant superyachts that require deeper waters. There are also restaurants, retail shops and a beach club that offers poolside relaxation during the day and music experiences at night. Elsewhere there is an 18-hole golf course and club. As for accommodation, it is not yet clear whether all rooms will be ready, but we know that there will ultimately be 440 hotel rooms and 88 villas, as well as 218 serviced apartments.

In addition, the surrounding waters of Sindalah are home to over a thousand different species of fish, in addition to more than 300 species of coral, 45 of which are unique to the region. Guests are invited to dive beneath the surface to explore for themselves.

Don't book your flights yet, however, as Sindalah is currently undergoing a phased, invitation-only opening and is only expected to host a maximum of 2,400 guests per day by 2028. So we don't have any information about the prices yet, but that will definitely be the case very expensive.

“With the opening of Sindalah, Neom is committed to supporting the new era of luxury tourism in the Kingdom,” said Nadhmi Al-Nasr, Chief Executive Officer of Neom. “The realization of this landmark destination, the gateway to the Red Sea, is thanks to the visionary leadership of His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman and Saudi Vision 2030.

“This is a proud chapter in Neom’s history and we look forward to achieving more of our ambitious goals with His Royal Highness’ continued support. Neom’s first destination offers visitors a first look at what the future holds for our extensive portfolio of destinations and developments.”

Sindalah is part of an unprecedented construction boom in Saudi Arabia. In addition to the Neom projects, the country is also building a giant skyscraper called Mukaab and hopes to host the World Cup in 2034. If everything goes according to plan, the country will change completely in the coming decades.
