Following the Dodgers World Series victory, there were multiple arrests following violence and looting across Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Multiple arrests were made after violence and looting broke out in the Los Angeles area overnight as the region celebrated the Dodgers' victory for their eighth World Series title in franchise history.

Across the city — on Whittier Boulevard in East LA, downtown, near Dodger Stadium in Elysian Park and more — multiple crowds gathered to celebrate the championship win. While most celebrations were peaceful and festive, in some places things got out of control.

Fans in East LA celebrated the Dodgers' World Series victory. Authorities later declared an unlawful assembly.

Around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, the LAPD reported that a “hostile crowd” surrounded an MTA bus and attempted to set it on fire near Sunset and Echo Park Avenue. Metro officials said the bus operator and the five passengers on board the bus managed to evacuate safely before the bus was set on fire.

“Metro is disappointed and angered by the senseless vandalism of one of our buses following the Dodgers World Series victory this evening,” the transportation agency said in a statement.

No arrests were made in this incident, but six people were taken into custody after a group broke into a Nike store in downtown LA and stole boxes of merchandise.

Some people were seen near a Dodgers celebration, breaking into what looked like a Nike store and walking away with boxes full of merchandise.

The LAPD went on tactical alert around 9 p.m. Wednesday as large crowds gathered elsewhere in the city. AIR7 was overhead, capturing fans in Dodger gear waving flags and taking over intersections.

Shortly after 11 p.m., mounted police and dozens of others in riot gear tried to clear a crowd near Broadway and 5th Street downtown.

AIR7 also captured several cases of street takeovers involving donuts and car burnouts.

The tactical alert was lifted around 3 a.m. Thursday morning.

In addition to the six people arrested for looting, two were arrested for failure to disperse and four others were arrested for theft, according to police.

A police officer was taken to the hospital, but details about the cause and the officer's condition were not available.

During a press conference Thursday morning, Mayor Karen Bass addressed these incidents as city leaders prepare for Friday's World Series parade.

“I would like to once again urge Angelenos to celebrate responsibly. Violence of any kind will not be tolerated…However, the vast majority of last night's celebration was joyful and peaceful, and I would like to thank the many Angelenos who celebrated peacefully,” she said.
