Shaun White and Nina Dobrev's relationship timeline

Shaun White and Nina Dobrev announced their engagement on October 30th after more than four years of dating.

The retired Olympic snowboarder and the former “Vampire Diaries” star made their romance Instagram official in May 2020 when Dobrev shared a snap of her cutting White's hair during the pandemic.

The two showed how serious they were about each other when they spent Thanksgiving with White's family, as shown in pictures and videos shared by the three-time Olympic gold medalist on Instagram.

The playful couple, who often shared pictures of each other on social media, have charmed fans with their sweet remarks over the years, like when White gushed to People in October 2021 that Dobrev was “incredible” and a positive one Life has an “influence” on him.

In October 2024, White proposed to Dobrev in New York and used a fake dinner invitation with Anna Wintour to lure Dobrev to the Golden Swan restaurant in the West Village, the couple told Vogue. There, Dobrev found White waiting under an arch of white roses with a 5-carat diamond ring.

May 2020: White and Dobrev officially make their romance public on Instagram

White and Dobrev, who had sparked dating rumors months before, made their romance Instagram official when Dobrev shared before-and-after photos of herself giving White a haircut during the pandemic.

“Added to resume: Hairdresser,” she captioned the post.

November 2020: The couple spends Thanksgiving with White's family

Months later, White took Bulgarian-born Dobrev home to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family.

“I am so grateful to be surrounded by so much love!! It's been incredible getting older and watching my family continue to grow. I hope everyone out there had a great Thanksgiving!” White wrote alongside pictures from the holiday that he posted on Instagram.

February 2021: You celebrate Valentine's Day as a couple

Dobrev shared a sweet picture on Instagram showing her licking White's face in honor of Valentine's Day 2021. “My favorite snow cone flavor is White,” she joked in her caption. “I'm glad we 'sticked together' last year and persevered 😉 Happy Valentine's Day to my crime quarantine…”

October 2021: White raves about Dobrev's “influence” on his life

White spoke to People in October 2021 about the influence Dobrev has had on his life and snowboarding career.

“Nina is incredible. What an impact on my life,” White said. “Not only does she run her own show, her own world, companies she's involved in, things she produces, all these things that happen. She holds me to that high standard, which is such a wonderful thing to have a partner.”

January 2022: White jokingly calls Dobrev a “hot mess” in a tribute to his birthday.

February 2022: Dobrev calls White “the GOAT of snowboarding”

In February 2022, Dobrev acknowledged the end of White's professional snowboarding career with a touching Instagram tribute.

“I am in awe of you. Today we celebrate you. Your hard work. Your passion. Your determination. Your talent. Your class. Your fearlessness. Your courage. Your soul. Your heart. YOUR LEGACY,” the devoted friend wrote .

“I couldn’t be prouder,” Dobrev continued. “From everything you have accomplished as a competitor over the last 20+ years and the man you have become. You are unique. You are a true hero and you inspire me every day.”

She added: “You will forever be the GOAT of snowboarding. Not to mention you’re also the G.(B).OAT = greatest boyfriend ever.”

March 2022: Dobrev throws a going away party for White

The following month, the “Degrassi: The Next Generation” alum threw White a celebratory going away party, where she invited guests to wear long red wigs in honor of White's red hair.

May 2022: The couple makes their red carpet debut

The couple made their red carpet debut when they attended the London premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in May 2022.

September 2022: Dobrev calls White her “crazy” in a tribute to her birthday.

In September 2022, Dobrev celebrated White's 36th birthday with a silly picture on Instagram in which he stuck one of his fingers up her nose while she laughed.

“I really picked a winner (and he really picked a booger),” she joked. “Happy belated birthday, you weirdo. My crazy. @shaunwhite.”

December 2022: They spend the holidays with their families in Mexico

Both White and Dobrev shared photos on Instagram from their Mexico vacation with family members in December 2022.

Accompanying the couple on the trip were White's parents, Roger and Cathy White, and Dobrev's parents, Michaela and Kamen Dobrev, according to People. White's siblings, Kari White Bodman and Jesse White, as well as their spouses and children also joined in on the fun.

January 2024: White surprises Dobrev with a birthday trip to Disneyland

In January 2024, White treated his girlfriend to a surprise group trip to Disneyland in honor of her 34th birthday.

Dobrev shared a carousel of pictures and videos of the couple and their friends on their special day on Instagram, writing, “The happiest surprise on the happiest day in the happiest place in the world.”

She added: “A big thank you to my love @shaunwhite for orchestrating the whole thing! You sneaky little devil.”

October 2024: White proposes to Dobrev

White popped the question to Dobrev in New York in October 2024.

The couple detailed White's elaborate proposal to Vogue, revealing that he sent her a fake invitation to dinner with Anna Wintour to lure her to the Golden Dragon restaurant, where he was waiting to offer her a 5-carat diamond ring hand over.

White even went so far as to arrange for Dobrev to meet with a stylist, which she said Vogue had arranged.

White posted images of the proposal on Instagram on October 30. “She said YES,” he wrote, adding a diamond ring and eternity symbol emoji.

Dobrev also shared pictures and wrote, “RIP friend, hello fiancé,” while sharing the same emoji.
