Happy Halloween! IGN can exclusively reveal five new character posters from director Robert Eggers' upcoming retelling of Nosferatu. The posters can be viewed in the slideshow below.

The posters feature the characters played by Nicholas Hoult (as Thomas Hutter), Lily-Rose Depp (as Ellen Hutter), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (as Friedrich Harding), Emma Corrin (as Anna Harding) and Willem Dafoe ( as Professor Albin). Eberhart von Franz).

Eggers' Nosferatu is officially described as “a gothic tale of obsession between a persecuted young woman and the terrifying vampire who is in love with her and causes indescribable horror.” Bill Skarsgård plays the vampire Count Orlok.

The film is, of course, a remake of the 1922 German Expressionist classic Nosferatu: A Symphony of HorrorDirected by FW Murnau. Murnau's film was essentially a copy of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, which is why Stoker's heirs filed a copyright infringement lawsuit. Almost all copies of the film were destroyed due to a court ruling, but it has survived to this day.

The filming of Murnau's Nosferatu served as the basis for the 2000 indie film Shadow of the Vampirestarring John Malkovich as director Murnau and Willem Dafoe as Max Schreck, the strange actor who plays Count Orlok (and may also be a real vampire).

The original Nosferatus Count Orlok is one of our favorites the most influential monsters in film historywhile Murnau's Nosferatu ranks 24th among IGN's best horror films of all time. and comes in at number 3 on our list of the 25 best vampire films. (Shockingly, it was reported in 2015 that FW Murnaus' head was stolen from his grave in Berlin!)

Eggers' version isn't the first remake of Nosferatu either. Werner Herzog 1979 Nosferatu the vampire Klaus Kinski played the vampire in the main role.

Focus Features is releasing Robert Eggers' Nosferatu in theaters nationwide this Christmas.
