Draymond Green baffled by Dwyane Wade mistake at Miami Heat statue – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Draymond Green recently commented on the Dwyane Wade Miami Heat statue controversy.

On his podcast of the same name, Green couldn't help but talk about the Wade statue that was recently unveiled outside the Kaseya Center in Miami.

“First, I want to congratulate D-Wade on the statue,” Green told co-host Baron Davis. “Retiring your jersey is one thing, it’s incredible. Getting a statue is a whole other level. But we have to ask: What were your initial thoughts about the statue?”

The statue has sparked controversy because it does not look like the Heat legend, leading to mixed reactions on social media. Green shared his thoughts on the situation and expressed his confusion over the process.

“I saw pictures of D-Wade looking at (a replica of) the face of the statue,” Green told Davis. “It’s actually on Rachel Nicholls (social media site) if I’m not mistaken. And I must say, the model of his face looks nothing like the statue that turned out.

“So everyone says, 'Oh, D-Wade, he saw it, he approved it,' but the model of his face looked like D-Wade. Afterwards it looked like Tim Thomas. I don't fully understand how this could have happened. My thing is, don't they show the statue to someone before they unveil it and everyone's like, “Oh, who is this guy?”

Wade established himself as one of the greatest players in Heat history, winning three NBA championships and the MVP of the 2006 NBA Finals. The 13-time All-Star and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer's No. 3 jersey was also worn by Miami retired, but he is the first player in franchise history to have a statue in front of the Kaseya Center.

You can expect Green to have a say in the creation of a statue similar to him in front of San Francisco's Chase Center if the Warriors ever decide to erect one. Hopefully the finished product will resemble it.
