The New York Jets have selected their new kicker

The New York Jets announced a series of roster moves before facing the Houston Texans in Week 9.

Ahead of their Thursday Night Football matchup, the Jets (6-2) have selected who will replace Greg Zuerlein as the team's kicker.

It will be Riley Patterson.

The Jets announced that Patterson was signed to the 53-man roster from New York's practice squad.

Earlier this week, Patterson and Spencer Shrader were two kickers the Jets added to their practice squad amid Zuerlein's struggles. Zuerlein was ultimately placed on injured reserve.

Now the 25-year-old Patterson has the opportunity to make the job his own.

Before landing on IR, the 36-year-old Zuerlein had missed six field goal attempts in the NFL. The most recent loss came last week in a three-point loss (25-22) to the New England Patriots. Zuerlein also missed an extra point in that game.

Patterson has a lot to offer in his first three NFL seasons. He has played for the Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns. Patterson has scored on 59 of his 67 career attempts (88.1 percent).

In addition to signing Petterson, the Jets have:

  • Activated TE Kenny Yeboah from injured reserve and released TE Anthony Firkser.
  • Added OL Alec Lindstrom to the active roster.
  • DL Takk McKinley was added to the practice squad.
  • Placed WR Allen Lazard and DL Leki Fotu on injured reserve.

Jets Wire will continue to provide all roster updates throughout the 2024 NFL season.
