Will Houston beat New York on TNF?

Will Houston beat New York on TNF?

The Houston Texans hit the road in a short week to face the New York Jets in prime time on Thursday Night Football. A team is on the decline after losing on a last-second touchdown to a struggling AFC East opponent. The other team has returned to winning ways, but will lose two crucial elements on offense.

The Texans need to prove they can win at less than 100% on offense. Nico Collins remains on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Stefon Diggs' tenure at NRG Drive may be over after the four-time Pro Bowler suffered a season-ending ACL tear in the Week 8 win over the Colts.

“He was such an important part of our team and everything he brought, not only on the field but off the field,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said. “The energy, the leader, the way he worked every day,” Ryans said. “Must close the gap. A lot of people have to step in and fill the gap. I’m definitely praying for him.”

Can Houston survive a close matchup against an AFC East opponent despite having several offensive stars?

Here are the Texans Wire staff predictions for Thursday's showdown between two very different AFC “contenders” to close out the month of October.

Yes, the Texans lost two of their key weapons in the passing game, but this is a pivotal moment for the AFC South favorite. The defense is good enough to lead Houston to the title. Can the offense keep up?

With the Jets allowing over 125 rushing yards per contest, Joe Mixon should have a field day in space. Expect CJ Stroud to finally get John Metchie III involved in the passing game, especially when he's in the slot. It's hard to trust anything surrounding the Jets these days. Even when beaten and injured, it's easier to trust Houston's front seven.

The 6-2 Texans travel to play the 2-6 New York Jets and are shocking underdogs after the loss of Stefon Diggs. That will require some of the best plays from CJ Stroud and Joe Mixon this season, but it's hard to imagine a red-hot Houston defense suddenly allowing a broken Jets offense to find its way.

Aaron Rodgers, Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall and the Jets' talented offense will find some plays – but ultimately, DeMeco Ryans' defense will lead the team to victory again.

It baffles me that New York is the favorite in this game and has a defense capable of frustrating the Texans' offense. However, Joe Mixon should have another big day and Houston's defensive line could wreak havoc against fairly tight end Aaron Rodgers.
