NHL Recap: Sidney Crosby lifts Pens past Ducks in OT

Sidney Crosby scored his second goal of the game at 2:35 of overtime to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 2-1 win over the visiting Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night.

Crosby pushed his way to the top of the net and had time to wait for goaltender Lukas Dostal before pushing the puck high into the net for his third goal of the season. His only previous goal before Thursday was also the overtime winner on October 16 against the Buffalo Saves.

Alex Nedeljkovic made 22 saves for the Penguins, ending a six-game losing streak (0-5-1).

Alex Killorn scored a goal and Dostal made 44 saves for the Ducks, who were 1-2-1 in a four-game road trip.

Capitals 6, Canadians 3

Connor McMichael and Aliaksei Protas scored 36 seconds apart at the start of the third period to put hosts Washington ahead of Montreal.

Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored his third goal in two games, raising his career tally to 858. Ovechkin, who also had two assists, is 37 goals behind Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky for the most goals total in NHL history .

The Canadiens' Cole Caufield scored in his fourth straight game, raising his goal-scoring total this season to 10. Captain Nick Suzuki recorded a goal and an assist, Brendan Gallagher also scored, Lane Hutson had two assists and Cayden Primeau stopped 28 shots for Montreal, which has lost six of its last eight games (2-5-1).

Oilers 5, Predators 1

Leon Draisaitl scored two goals with an assist and Edmonton looked solid to beat Nashville in its first game without injured superstar Connor McDavid.

Former Predator Viktor Arvidsson, Corey Perry and Zach Hyman also scored, while Calvin Pickard made 26 saves for the Oilers, who have won three of four games.

It was also Edmonton's second win this month in Nashville, which scored only Filip Forsberg's fifth goal, while losing for the second straight season (0-1-1) after three straight wins.

Flyers 2, Blues 1

Bobby Brink scored with 3:01 left to lead host Philadelphia past St. Louis.

Samuel Ersson made 20 saves and Garnet Hathaway also scored a goal for Philadelphia, which won back-to-back games for the first time this season. The Flyers are 3-1-0 in their last four games following a six-game losing streak (0-5-1).

Nathan Walker scored for St. Louis, which ended its four-game road trip in disappointing fashion. The Blues defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1 to open play before losing their final three games 15-4 overall.

Maple Leafs 4, Kraken 1

William Nylander scored two goals to help Toronto win against Seattle.

Auston Matthews added a goal and an assist and Matthew Knies scored a goal for the Maple Leafs, who have won two straight. John Tavares had two assists.

Eeli Tolvanen scored for Seattle. Joey Daccord stopped 26 shots for the Kraken, who open a five-game road trip at 1-1.

Hurricanes 8, Bruins 2

Andrei Svechnikov and Jack Roslovic each scored two goals and Carolina had a great first half to beat Boston in Raleigh, North Carolina

Martin Necas finished the game with a goal and three assists, while Jackson Blake, Sean Walker and Jesperi Kotkaniemi also scored. The Hurricanes doubled their highest goal total of the season in four games in their home opener.

Brad Marchand and Hampus Lindholm scored for the Bruins, who have won just one of their last six games (1-4-1). Boston goaltender Jeremy Swayman allowed six goals on 22 shots in less than half the game before being substituted in favor of Joonas Korpisalo, who made 13 saves.

Sharks 3, Blackhawks 2

Will Smith scored his first NHL goal and added his second to help host San Jose to a comeback victory over Chicago.

Alex Wennberg also scored for the Sharks, who have won three games in a row for the first time since the middle of last season. Mackenzie Blackwood made 26 saves, including all 12 shots he faced in the third period, as the Blackhawks dominated the game and frantically pushed for the equalizer.

Ryan Donato and Tyler Bertuzzi scored for the Blackhawks, who have lost five of six games. Petr Mrazek stopped 26 shots and Connor Murphy collected two assists.
