Samuel Ersson and Tyson Foerster lead victory in Boston – NBC Sports Philadelphia

Samuel Ersson was extremely reliable in net and Tyson Foerster showed off his shot to give the Flyers a 2-0 victory over the Bruins on Tuesday night at TD Garden.

It wasn't an offensive tour de force by the Flyers. But John Tortorella's team defended hard and well and got a much-needed victory in a building that gave them difficulties.

Ersson threw his sixth career shutout. Foerster gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead in the second period and Joel Farabee iced the game with a missed shot.

The Flyers are 3-6-1 after 10 games. After losing six straight, they have won two of their last three.

They had allowed four or more goals in seven of their first nine games, so such a defensive performance was timely.

The Flyers had a record of 0-4-0 and were 19-8 in their last four games at TD Garden. The last win in Boston was on April 5, 2021. The Flyers played five defensemen in a 3-2 overtime decision: Travis Sanheim, Ivan Provorov, Philippe Myers, Shayne Gostisbehere and Justin Braun. Sanheim, the only one still in Philadelphia, scored the winning goal.

Tuesday night also marked the Flyers' first regular season win at TD Garden since the 2011-12 season opener.

The Flyers will face the Bruins (4-5-1) again on Saturday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center.

• Ersson stopped all 25 shots he faced.

The 25-year-old made some great saves in the first third to keep the game goalless. The Flyers defeated Boston 1:37 minutes into a 5-on-3 power play in the opening stanza. They went hard in the third period and only took three shots.

Ersson's only blemish of the night was a miscommunication with Emil Andrae on a power play in the third period that almost led to a game-winning shorthanded goal for the Bruins.

Boston backup Joonas Korpisalo stopped 17 of the Flyers' 18 shots.

• Tortorella has mentioned Foerster a few times as a young player who needs to get better. The 22-year-old winger answered the call against the Bruins.

A little more than five and a half minutes into the second period, he used his greatest strength to give the Flyers a decisive lead. Foerster scored from the slot after a nice pass from Andrae, who scored his first NHL point of his career.

That was a big goal for Foerster, who scored 20 goals as a rookie last season but was just one and a healthy scratch this season.

• Andrae was extremely effective in his second game of the season. The 22-year-old defender played a calm and confident game. His first pass is a strength and the Flyers trusted him on both the power play and the penalty kill.

He definitely deserves the third game in a row.

• The Flyers also got solid performances from their other defensemen.

Sanheim and Rasmus Ristolainen were strong at ending plays quickly. Nick Seeler and Jamie Drysdale combined for eight blocked shots. They really fought. And Erik Johnson stood by Andrae's side.

• The Flyers return home for a Halloween matchup against the Blues on Thursday (7 p.m. ET/NBCSP).
