Residents near the El Paso Water property missed pesticide distribution

Socorro residents tell KFOX14/CBS4 they are still battling the flour beetle infestation, even after the El Paso county commissioner for the area distributed pesticides to residents.

Residents who live a mile from the El Paso Water property and are believed to be facilitating the infestation said they were unaware of the pesticide distribution.

Local resident Tim Vasquez said he sprayed the insects with pesticides he found at his local store, adding, “I had no idea they were giving away pesticides for this.”

Vasquez added that he and his neighbors were hoping for compensation for hiring their pest control services.

“I was even wondering who I might need to talk to – maybe they would fund us with some kind of money – maybe if we brought out a pest controller,” Vasquez said.

Residents said they hoped officials would communicate directly with residents in affected areas.

Vasquez added, “They should give it to us in the neighborhood and drive around and say something.”

KFOX14/CBS4 reached out to Commissioner Holguin and asked if there will be another round of pesticide distribution. We are waiting for an answer.
