Harris and Trump are neck-and-neck in the hectic final weekend of the election campaign

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump begin the final weekend of the most tense U.S. presidential campaign in modern times with a flurry of swing-state rallies that will test their stamina — and their ability to win over the country's last undecided voters.

Harris, who is vying to become the country's first female president, will use rallies in Georgia, North Carolina and Michigan to drive home her message that Trump is a threat to U.S. democracy.

Trump — who is seeking a sensational return to the White House after his defeat in 2020 and then became the first presidential candidate convicted of crimes — is promising a right-wing overhaul of government and aggressive trade wars to enforce his “America First” policies.

The 78-year-old, who gathered late Friday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, just a few miles from Harris' event, will almost run into her again as Trump makes whistle stops in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Georgia.

Their hectic schedule runs into Monday, culminating in nightly rallies – in Grand Rapids, Michigan, for Trump and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for Harris.

Election Day is Tuesday, but Americans have been voting early for weeks, with more than 70 million ballots already cast – including a record four million in Georgia, where Democrats are pulling out all the stops to win the state in their column to keep.

Opinion polls continue to show a tie, particularly in the seven battleground states that are expected to decide the outcome of the U.S. Electoral College, leaving the Republican businessman and his 60-year-old Democratic rival fighting hard to garner even a shred of support each other's camps.

Harris, currently President Joe Biden's vice president, is accomplishing this by appealing to centrist voters and getting her base to the polls with strong campaigning and turnout.

And by portraying Trump as a toxic authoritarian, she also encourages voters to “finally turn the tide” on the former president.

“He is someone who is becoming increasingly unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed with resentment – and the man is looking for uncontrolled power,” she told supporters in Little Chute, Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, Trump has escalated his already extreme rhetoric in hopes of encouraging massive voter turnout from his loyal base.

“Kamala’s final message to America is that she hates you,” Trump raged Friday night in Warren, Michigan, where he called the Biden-Harris economy a disaster — something economists are clearly not saying — and warned: “ “An economic crisis in the 1929 Style” would follow if Harris were elected.

Citing her hawkish foreign policy views, Trump had previously conjured up the image that former Republican representative and later Harris supporter Liz Cheney would be shot.

“She is a radical war hawk. Let's put her there with a gun that shoots at her with nine barrels, shall we? “Let’s see how she feels about, you know, with the guns pointed at her face,” Trump said.

Despite the rhetoric, Trump expressed nostalgia Friday that his campaign experience over the past nine years was “the thrill of a lifetime.”

“And now let's take that thrill and turn it into 'Let's do business,' right?”

Harris, the country's first Black and first Asian-American vice president, has tried to win over prominent stars such as Beyoncé and Bruce Springsteen in the final days of the campaign.

Jennifer Lopez, a pop icon of Puerto Rican descent, joined Harris on stage Thursday amid a firestorm sparked by a Trump rally warm-up speaker who branded the U.S. territory a “floating trash island.”

Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B appeared with the contestant on Friday night and asked the crowd in Milwaukee, “Are we ready to make history?”

With the election just days away – and Trump refusing to say whether he would accept the results if he loses – businesses in the capital, Washington, have begun boarding up storefronts as city officials face a “volatile, unpredictable Security Environment” warn days after the polls closed.

Trump is already alleging fraud and cheating in swing states like Pennsylvania, laying the groundwork for what many fear will be more unrest after violence broke out at the U.S. Capitol following the 2020 vote.
