According to the FCC, the Verizon outage is under investigation

Is your iPhone running on Verizon network and stuck in SOS mode? The government wants to do something about it.

On Monday, numerous Verizon customers in the US reported that they were unable to connect to Verizon's mobile network at all. According to Reuters, the FCC is therefore investigating the major outage. The federal agency is “working to determine the cause and extent of these service interruptions.”

Since the outage is ongoing and the investigation has just begun, it's hard to say what, if anything, will come of it. But at least someone is investigating it.

Reports of service issues began popping up on Verizon's Downdetector page on Monday morning, and at the time of writing, the issue still hasn't been fully resolved. I have an iPhone 16 on Verizon's network and haven't been able to access a cellular network for about five hours. Unfortunately, there is still no concrete information as to when the problem will be resolved.
