Agatha All Along Season 1 Finale: How Did It End?

Warning: This article contains spoilers.

Down, down, down the street. On the path of the witches.

Disney+ and Marvel Studios' newest show, “Agatha All Along,” left viewers wanting more after the season 1 finale.

Viewers now know that The Witches' Road was never a real adventure to begin with.

Instead, Billy (Joe Locke) unwittingly created the adventure “The Witches' Road” by drawing inspiration from his room in EastView; the portrait of the house, a figure of the Wicked Witch of the West, a poster of Lorna Wu, etc.

However, the “Ballad of the Witches' Road” was originally a song composed by Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) and her six-year-old son Nicholas Scratch as a shared pastime in the late 1750s.

The audience saw the couple change the lyrics and shape the ballad to suit their childhood fantasies.

As an impostor, Nicholas sang the ballad while trying to lure witches in the city to his home, where Agatha would kill him.

It was only after Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) led young Nicholas to his death that Agatha decided to use the rumors of The Witches' Road as a new way to kill witches and gain their powers.

“The Witches Road,” a young witch said to Agatha as she mourned the loss of Nicholas Scratch. “I heard about it. The path offers witches who are brave and faithful a prize worth the danger.”

The audience is then taken into a montage of Agatha killing witches with the promise of going down the witch street until we reach the present of the newest coven.

Fans of the series assume that Agatha killed the witches as payment for Rio to spend more time with Nicholas. At the start of Episode 9, Rio is waiting for Agatha to give birth so she can take her with her, so the theory may not be too far off.

Instead of killing Lilia Calderu (Patti Lupone), Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), Mrs. Hart (Debra Jo Rupp), and Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn), Agatha was shocked to see a door appear after singing the song , but not then I realized that it was Billy who had conjured it up.

Rio revealed one of Agatha's big plans on Witch Street; to distract Rio so she doesn't realize who Teen really is, now known as Billy Maximoff.

“He’s an abomination,” Rio said to Agatha during their heated conversation, ready to collect Billy’s soul. “He disturbs the sacred balance. And I know how you feel about him.”

Showrunner Jac Schaeffer said viewers can expect a deep dive into Agatha's mind and more information about Rio's true identity.

“It will shed a little more light on our version of Death, but I will say that in general on this show we leave some of that up to interpretation,” Schaeffer told Inverse. “But you’ll get a little more understanding of how she operates in the last two episodes.”

Agatha, who always looked after herself, made a deal with Rio. She agreed to let Billy hand himself over to Lady Death in exchange for Rio not pursuing him for an extremely long time.

During the epic battle scene between the two powerful witches, Agatha almost escaped – until Billy asked the witch if Nicholas died that way.

Instead of completing the deal, Agatha sacrificed herself again for Billy and protected him from Lady Death.

Agatha kissed Rio as viewers speculate the kiss was the kiss of death, ending the rumored horrors caused by Agatha Harkness.

In Episode 9, Agatha returns as a ghost when Billy realizes that he has created a physical manifestation of The Witches' Road that killed Lilia, Sharon and Alice.

After an unsuccessful banishing incantation, Billy and ghost Agatha, now a coven of two, embark on a new adventure to find Tommy after Billy leads his brother's ghost to an empty vessel during the final trial.

Although a second season of this spin-off series has not yet been confirmed, another Marvel-focused WandaVision spin-off, Vision, is in the works.

“With this show we wanted to tell a complete story and I hope we achieved that. But as a fan and admirer, I think there's a lot more to tell about all of these characters,” Schaeffer told Decider about a possible second season of Agatha All Along.

Paul Bettany, who will reprise his role as Vision, told The Hollywood Reporter that the show is set to begin filming next year and that “we're coming up with something that I'm really excited about.”

The untitled Vision series will also see James Spader return as Ultron – a creature created by Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, to act as a defense program. Star Trek: Picard's Terry Matalas serves as showrunner.
