The Yankees face a tough test in Kansas City against Seth Lugo, who will take the mound for the Royals in Game 3 of the American League Division Series.

Lugo parlayed a solid 2023 season into a three-year, $45 million deal with the Royals in the offseason, but no one saw what he would do in 2024.

The veteran right-hander turned AL Cy Young heads this year by posting a 3.00 ERA with 181 strikeouts and throwing more than 200 innings for the first time in his career.

Lugo took the ball in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series against the Orioles and held Baltimore to just one run but lasted only 4 ⅓ innings.

I'm betting on him going deeper in Wednesday night's game against the Bombers.

Lugo has been an absolute workhorse for Kansas City this season, reaching the sixth inning in 29 of his 33 starts.

He was retired early in one of those four starts, playing against the Braves at the end of the season after the Royals had already secured a playoff spot.

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge watches his fly ball while baseline during the third inning of Game 2 of the American League baseball playoff series against the Kansas City Royals on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, in New York heads down.

The oddsmakers at DraftKings Sportsbook hardly expect him to hit as far as he has consistently in the regular season, putting his out total at 15.5, meaning he would have to go 5 ⅓ to make the over meet.

Lugo has proven he can reach that number with ease, but he's also fielding a Yankees lineup that he's had success against in the past.

Aaron Judge went hitless in eight plate appearances against Lugo.

Juan Soto hit just .250 in 21 at-bats against him.

Jazz Chisholm, Giancarlo Stanton and she combined to hit .175 ahead of Lugo.

Look for Lugo to get deep into this game.
