Aldi is offering Thanksgiving meal for 10 people for less than

Aldi is unveiling its lowest-priced Thanksgiving range in five years, with the discount grocery chain potentially taking a cue from fast-food chains' current offerings $5 meals to attract price-conscious Americans.

Aldi announced its “anti-inflationary holiday meal” for 10 people on Wednesday, priced at $47.00, or $4.70 per person. Aldi's Turkey Day plan costs about two dollars less than larger competitor Walmart's offering.

US inflation in September hit The lowest level since February 2021 reflected lower gas prices and a slight increase in food costs, prompting one analyst to call inflation “dying but not dead.”

Many consumers have responded to higher grocery prices by switching from branded items to store brands, a trend in Aldi's favor since more than 90% of the products it sells are store brands.

Aldi's Thanksgiving menu follows a traditional menu and includes a Butterball turkey with seasonings, gravy, rolls, macaroni and cheese, stuffing and ingredients for cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie.

“With 25% of U.S. households now shopping at Aldi, we know that grocery prices are still top of mind,” Aldi CEO Jason Hart said in a news release Wednesday.

Prices quoted by Aldi are based on a 16-pound turkey and availability depends on store location.

Aldi, based in Germany, operates 2,300 stores in the United States and is planning more another 800 locations until the end of 2028.

In 2023, a 16-pound frozen turkey cost an average of $27.35 and accounted for 45% of the cost of a Thanksgiving feast for 10 people, which was $61.17, or about $61.17, according to an annual survey by the American Farm Bureau Federation Cost was $6.12 per person. The group is expected to report its 2024 results next month.
