Alex Cobb of the Guardians makes history with ALDS Game 3 start

The Cleveland Guardians are looking for an important road win in Game 3 of the ALDS against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon.

After a strong start from the experienced left-hander Matthew Boyd In Game 2 this past Monday, the Guardians will have another veteran as their series against the Tigers ended in a 1-1 draw.

Right-handed Alex Cobb will get the ball for Cleveland to start Game 3 and will make history as soon as he takes the mound on Wednesday.

Cobb made two postseason starts for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013.

His first career playoff start came on October 2, 2013, away against Cleveland in the 2013 AL Wild Card Game. The right-hander secured the win with a strong performance, throwing 6.2 scoreless innings and five strikeouts in a 4-0 Rays victory.

Then on October 7, 2013, Cobb started Game 3 of the ALDS at home against the Boston Red Sox. He pitched five innings, allowed three runs (two earned) and threw five strikeouts. Although he didn't record a decision, the Rays won 5-4.

Before Game 2 last Monday in Cleveland, Cobb was asked if it felt like it had been 11 years since his last playoff start and if he had been waiting for another postseason opportunity.

“Both,” Cobb said. “It feels like it’s been 10 – is it 11 years? On one hand it feels like it just flew by, and then you look back at all the things that happened and it feels like a really long time. But I still vividly remember how I did in that Wild Card game after the celebration here, just looking around and thinking, I can't wait to be back at this moment.

Now, more than two months after being acquired by the San Francisco Giants, Cobb gets his next postseason opportunity with the Guardians.
