Alex Rodriguez's Yankees proposal to revive Aaron Judge

Alex Rodriguez's Yankees proposal to revive Aaron Judge

Alex Rodriguez initially called it a “subtle move” the Yankees could make to revitalize their lineup after falling 2-0 in the World Series, but Kevin Burkhardt corrected him.

That, Fox Sports postgame host Rodriguez said during Saturday night's postgame show, was a “big step.”

With Yankees star Aaron Judge mired in a long postseason losing streak that now includes multiple strikeouts in five straight games, Rodriguez suggested swapping Judge and Juan Soto in the batting order to “try to activate and jumpstart Judge a little bit.” “ – and thus create a top three from Gleyber Torres, Judge and Soto.

“Sometimes you just have it – you really want to score runs, you really want to activate the big man,” Rodriguez said. “The bottom line is, folks: It's going to be late early, okay, and if Judge doesn't start, it's going to be a short series. So if you're desperate, why not have Judge guard your best hitter, and then if you get separated, you can create a matchup problem for the bullpen.”

The most recent instance of Judge's troubles came Saturday during the Yankees' 4-2 loss in Game 2, when Judge went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and watched his postseason average fall to .150.

Judge only had one hit during the World Series and he did not have a multi-hit game this postseason.

He doubled once against the Royals in the ALDS and hit a home run in consecutive games in the ALCS – including a game-tying hit off Emmanuel Clase in the eighth inning of Game 3 – against the Guardians, but Judge did not record an extra base hit even beyond that .

“Especially with what Gleyber and Juan are doing at the top of the lineup, I have to support them,” Judge told reporters on Saturday. “They’re going to keep getting on base, I have to drive them in or bring them over.”

The World Series moves back to Yankee Stadium for at least the next two games and possibly the next three games if the Yankees win a game, starting Monday night when Clarke Schmidt faces the Dodgers' Walker Buehler.

And if Alex Rodriguez were in charge of setting up the Yankees' lineup, he could also adjust their batting order.
