Once Spider-Man, always Spider-Man.

Andrew Garfield confirmed that he would reprise his role as the Marvel superhero in a future film – under certain conditions.

“Of course I would 100 percent come back if it was the right thing, if it contributed to the culture, if there was a great concept or something that had never been done before that was unique and strange and exciting and that you could get into “Clean your teeth,” he told Esquire in an interview published Wednesday.

“I love this character and he’s a joy to play,” Garfield added. “If part of what I bring is joy, then I’m happy about that too.”

The actor debuted as Peter Parker in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man and returned in 2014 for the sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Both films were directed by Marc Webb and starred Emma Stone as Parker's lover Gwen Stacy.

Garfield and Stone dated for four years while working together.

In the Esquire story, Garfield noted that his Spider-Man franchise was left “in limbo” when a third film never materialized.

Luckily, he was allowed to take on the role of the web-slinger again in 2021 for Tom Holland's third Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: No Way Home.

“It was really healing for me,” Garfield said of reprising the role alongside Tobey Maguire, who played the original Peter Parker in Sam Raimi's trilogy.

In July, there were rumors that Garfield was preparing to play Spider-Man again after Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed that a new film about the superhero was in the works.

However, Garfield put an end to the rumors last month while promoting his new film We Live in Time at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“I mean, the internet is a big place,” the actor told IndieWire. “I think there are a lot of people who will just say anything to get clicks.

“So I’m afraid you may have been deceived,” he added.

Holland, 28, is expected to return for a fourth film in his Spider-Man franchise, which also stars his girlfriend Zendaya.

In April, the British actor told Deadline: “The simple answer is that I always want to do Spider-Man movies.” I owe my life and my career to Spider-Man. So the simple answer is: yes. I will always want to do more.

“We have the best in the business working on the story, no matter what it may be,” Holland said. “But until we crack it, we have a legacy to protect. The third film was so special in so many ways that we have to make sure we do the right thing.”

Destin Daniel Cretton is reportedly in talks to direct Spider-Man 4. He previously directed Marvel's own film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
