Tough times don't last long, but tough people do. Irfan Khan epitomized this briefly during Australia's first ODI against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, when he took a brilliant catch immediately after his dedicated efforts were rejected by the laws of cricket.

Looking to surpass their 204-run target, Australia lost a couple of early wickets in the form of openers Matt Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk. However, Steve Smith and Josh Inglis steadied the stage by mixing caution with aggression as the net run rate consistently hovered around the 6 runs per over mark. The pair competed against Pakistan's first and second change bowlers for a good period in the second powerplay to take the total past the 100-run mark. As the partnership neared the 90 mark, Haris Rauf broke the stand in the 17th over, although Inglis continued with an aggressive approach before Irfan's effort came to Pakistan's aid.

On the third ball of the 20th over, Shaheen Afridi bowled a back-of-length delivery outside the stumps to Inglis, who pulled it into the deep square-leg area. Irfan in the deep jumped from the edge of the boundary ropes and touched the white rock inside the pitch. However, the TV referees noticed that the field player had his leg on the boards when trying to defend and signaled a six. Not knowing the rules, Irfan was extremely frustrated but didn't give up on perfecting another fielding performance. On the next ball, Inglis tried to hit a six in the same area and Irfan ran along the ropes and leapt towards the ball to complete a brilliant shot. Certainly, the batsman embodied a never-give-up attitude and the Twitterverse praised his efforts.
