But despite the difficulties, Bethany admitted she felt compassion for her ex-husband.

“It's so sad because he – like the poor guy never had a chance,” she shared. “(He) was raised by this narcissist. He is forced into a marriage with a girl who is not right for him. He’s doing his best.”

She added: “It was just a mess.”

And while Bethany reiterated that it was the wrong marriage for both of them, she added that it was hard to think so negatively about it, “because I have a great daughter and everything, is something wrong?”

The Dexter Alum also detailed her life with the group in her upcoming memoir Dinner for Vampires: Life in a Cult TV Show (and a Real Cult at the Same Time)where she describes how she even came to join.

“I was always looking for a place where I belonged,” she said People. “It still looked normal and then it just changed. But when it started to change, I was too far into the relationships to notice.”

However, about ten years after joining, she noticed something was wrong with the community and realized she had to get out.

“There was so much at stake,” she said. “They were my only friends. I married into this group. I had built my entire life around it. If I admitted I was wrong, everything else would collapse.”
