Big takeaways from Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Election 2024 results at 12pm

Counting of votes for the assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir is underway. Here are the key takeaways from both states, according to the latest Election Commission trends.

Haryana

– BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, INLD-BSP and JJP-Azad Samaj Party are among the major parties contesting the polls.

– The results will decide the fate of 1,031 candidates, including 464 independents and 101 women for 90 constituencies.

– At 12 noon, the ruling BJP and the Congress engaged in a teetering battle. In the early hours of the morning, the Grand Old Party passed the halfway mark. However, as the counting of votes progressed, the saffron party made progress.

– The ruling BJP has crossed the majority mark and is leading in 49 seats, while the Congress is ahead in 35 seats.

– Former CM and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed confidence that his party will form the government in Haryana with a big lead even as the BJP was ahead.

— The Independents were leading with four seats, while INLD and BSP were ahead with one seat each. The Aam Aadmi Party has not yet won a single seat.

– Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini was ahead of Ladwa by almost 8,000 votes.

– Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda was ahead by over 40,000 votes from the Garhi-Sampla-Kiloi seat.

– INLD chief Abhay Singh Chautala and JJP’s Dushyant Chautala resigned from their seats.

– Abhay Singh Chautala's son and INLD candidate Arjun Chautala led from Rania seat ahead of independent candidate Ranjit Chautala.

– Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat has taken the lead by over 4,000 votes against BJP MP Yogesh Kumar from Julana seat.

– Among independents, Savitri Jindal, India's richest woman and mother of BJP MP from Kurukshetra Naveen Jindal, contested from Hisar seat.

– Former minister and senior BJP leader Anil Vij remained behind from Ambala Cantt seat. Independent candidate Chitra Sarwara with a lead of over 600 votes.

Jammu and Kashmir

– As per Election Commission trends, the National Conference-Congress alliance was ahead in 52 of the 90 seats while the BJP was ahead in 26 seats.

– The National Conference was ahead by 42 seats while its ally Congress was ahead by 10 seats.

– The PDP was ahead with three seats in the Union Territory while the Independents were leading with six seats.

– Omar Abdullah is ahead in Ganderbal by over 5,000 votes and in Budgam by over 8,000 votes

– Former JK Congress leader Vikar Rasool Wani is trailing Banihal by over 9,000 votes.

– Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina is over 11,000 votes behind in Nowshera.

– In Chhamb, former deputy chief minister and Congress candidate Tara Chand is trailing her rivals by over 19,000 votes.

– In Basholi seat, BJP's Darshan Lal is leading while former MP and Congress candidate Choudhary Lal Singh is trailing by over 16,000 votes.
