Understandably, WWE fans are almost universally excited about the idea of Sami Zayn returning to The Usos and Roman Reigns to fight Solo Sikoa's Bloodline.

But WWE would be unwise to get involved in that.

The pace of this whole thing already feels fast. Jey Uso lost the Intercontinental Title in a semi-strange way, almost to the point of breaking the fourth wall as a reward for his good work, but now it's back to Bloodline business. And he also reconnected with Jimmy Uso very quickly.

In this new era of methodical, long-term storytelling that revolves around character motivations, it would be silly for Zayn to just dismiss everything and make a connection to Reigns so quickly.

What might be more compelling is that Zayn is following the path of other anti-Reigns superstars of late. Kevin Owens obviously is very I am unhappy that anyone would join the original tribal chief.

Randy Orton has also expressed his displeasure with the whole thing and appears to be one step away from a heel turn that everyone agrees is coming.

If we keep the realistic booking, Zayn is probably more similar to Owens in his emotions – only more vocal and less violent.

All the gaslighting and serious concerns aside, Zayn will probably take his time as he tries to stay in the middle of the two factions. By the way, he also knows that if he simply teams up with Reigns again, there will be another blood feud with KO.

It doesn't feel like the few weeks until Survivor Series: WarGames on November 30th will be enough to fill these gaps.

However, this opens some interesting doors. Reigns and The Usos must clash with Sikoa's bloodline. But what if Zayn slips into an anti-You faction alongside Owens, Orton and someone who has serious problems with all of them? Think of Drew McIntyre, AJ Styles, or any number of other superstars that Reigns or his family members have harmed in recent years.

How's that for a WarGames? Three factions, all with super-real motivations backed by years of development. The match(s) would be a blast, we know that. But they would also open up plenty of compelling in-ring storytelling that advances the narrative as well.

Zayn joining Reigns and The Usos just because he was asked nicely isn't enough here. And that fourth wall? It would be another bad case of blurred lines reminiscent of a bygone era of WWE.

We're not too far removed from the Vince McMahon era of booking, which lazily shaped stories around events. Putting together tag matches despite characters' sensitivities was a staple of Survivor Series events. The same goes for the gross misuse of the Hell in a Cell or TLC formats.

Sure, there's more motivation here to bring Zayn's spotlight back alongside the good bloodline. It's definitely better to beat Cody Rhodes in the Family Feud, which again he has no place in. But you could argue that there's just as much motivation for Zayn to go the other way too.

The only What should ever bring Zayn back to Reigns' side is the tribal chief himself. It will require him to own up to his mistakes, the mistreatment, and the fact that he takes Zayn for granted. Everything else is just noise.

And right now it feels like we haven't gotten to that version of Reigns yet – and we probably shouldn't just because the calendar happens to say Survivor Series is November 30th.

Extending this longer to allow things to unfold naturally will benefit both WWE and the fans. We're approaching the “off-season” portion of the calendar before the build-up to WrestleMania really gets going.

Fans will want to tune in every week to see if, how and when Zayn might actually be there as the missing link. If it happened this early and then faction brawls happened every week, it just wouldn't be as compelling anymore.

Of course, not all fans will like this. For some, Zayn is that only Fourth, which makes sense. And to a certain extent they are right. But that doesn't have to happen immediately either.

If WWE applies their methodical and careful storytelling to this scenario, Zayn may not return to Reigns' Bloodline until just before Mania next year – there are just too many great storytelling threads to pull, and a whole lot of them Shows that need to be filled by then.

WWE likes to subvert expectations to create surprises. Here's a simple overview of one of them, which is of course earned by the measured storytelling so far. For now, Zayn needs to take a step back from this issue and stand by his own beliefs.
