Breeders' Cup tips for Saturday November 2nd from Mike Somich

Mike Somich's Breeders' Cup tips:

Breeders' Cup is on Saturday! One of my absolute favorite days of the year. They have the best minds in the world to secure glory in horse racing. What more could you want? Here are today's Breeders' Cup picks.

Breeders' Cup Classic – Race #8

That is #9 Wildness against the invaders. Above all #3 City of Troywho has been probably the best horse in Europe since June. The biggest downside for him is his lack of dirt form; He has never touched it and the breeding on the mother's side says he can't handle it. However, the fact that Aidan O'Brien chose this course over the BC Turf speaks volumes. If Fierceness can run back to his Travers he will be very tough, but consistency has always been his problem. The three Japanese horses all live here.

#1 Forever young has grown up in his time off since the Derby and looks like a much more mature horse. He had the worst of it in every possible round of the Derby and was relegated to 16thTh at the start and was harassed on the trail all the way home. He predicts he will have a much better trip today and will be able to capitalize on it.

#6 Derma Sotogakewho came second in this race last year is back and wants more. He ran better last year en route to the Breeders' Cup, but a change in form could make the 20-1 price look like a gift.

#7 Ushba Tesoro Last year he finished fifth in this place, but unlike his Japanese colleague, he was better this season. He expects the trip to get better and will probably be late.

#12 Arthur's ride is also worth mentioning. He was the fastest horse in the field at the start and was expected to take the lead. There are some other fast horses here, but if he gets along and isn't put under pressure he's talented enough to take them from gate to gate!

Breeders' Cup Picks – 1-3-7-9
The Bets – $50 Win #1

Breeders' Cup Turf – Race #7

Given history, it's no surprise that the favorite is Charley Appleby's trainee #11 Romance of the Rebels5/2 on the morning line who won this race at Keeneland in 2022. His 2023 campaign didn't go as planned, causing him to miss this race last year, but everything was in full swing in 2024, raising over six million. We're increasing our revenue worldwide and facing the highest competition at every stop. He's a deserving favorite, having won four of five starts this year, and while the position isn't ideal, he has more than enough talent to overcome it.

#4 Luxembourg is a European with speed who doesn't need an edge; that is dangerous. In all of his last ten outings he has competed against the best in the world, including two wins, one of them at this distance. He reunites with jockey Ryan Moore to try and conquer the turf.

Japanese invader #3 Shahryar will look to turn the tables on Rebel's Romance after finishing second to him in the Middle East earlier this year. I don't think he'll win, but it's entirely possible he'll hit the board.

#10 Wingspan is an up-and-coming three-year-old who is ideally suited to compete at this level of racing. Last time out she competed against the best women in Europe and took a solid second place on her first attempt at a Group 1 company. She will need to improve, but she has early pace and the 15/1 price is tempting.
