Canes After Dark: Hurricanes at Flames

Canes After Dark: Hurricanes at Flames

After the Carolina Hurricanes' exciting overtime win against Edmonton, the team travels to Alberta's largest city to face Calgary.

Calgary's only blemish in six games this season is last Saturday's overtime loss at Seattle. The Flames are a perfect 3-0 at the Scotiabank Saddledome and outscore their opponents 13-7 on home ice.

The Flames changed goaltenders in the first six games of the season. If this trend continues, Daniel Vladař will end up in the net tonight. He is 2-0-1 with a 2.63 goals against average and a save percentage of .890.

Calgary's other goaltender, Dustin Wolf, ranks in the NHL's top ten with a save percentage of .936 and is a perfect 3-0 this season.

Defender Rasmus Andersson is expecting a year of recovery after a decline in performance last season. He is tied for second among all NHL defensemen with eight points, and his three goals trail only Carolina's Shayne Gostisbehere.

The offense is powered by Jonathan Huberdeau, Martin Pospisil and Anthony Mantha. The trio have combined for five goals this season, the most among Calgary's five-on-five combinations.

The Flames are averaging 3.83 goals per game, good for seventh in the NHL. Calgary is bringing some excitement to the lineup as 12 different players have scored a goal this season.

If the Hurricanes' goaltending rotation continues, Pyotr Kochetkov will be between the goals tonight.

Gostisbehere has scored in four straight games, and his play against Edmonton in the third period and overtime was crucial to the Canes' comeback win.

Sebastian Aho is on a four-game points streak and shares the team's points lead with Martin Necas. Necas' monster three-point night against Edmonton is exactly the type of game he needs to start the season.

Other than the announcement of the starting goalie, no lineup changes are expected tonight.
