Charges dismissed against Ashlyn Watkins of South Carolina

Charges against South Carolina basketball forward Ashlyn Watkins have been officially dropped in connection with her Aug. 31 arrest on assault and kidnapping charges.

Lulu Kesin of the Greenville News first reported the news, and the Richland County Public Index confirms that both charges against the Columbia junior were dismissed on Nov. 4, the day the Gamecocks ended their season with a 68- 62 victory over Michigan opened.

Watkins was originally scheduled to appear in court on October 25, but the court appearance was postponed and never rescheduled because the charges were dropped. At the time of her arrest, Watkins was automatically suspended from all team activities, including the trip to the White House, both exhibition games and, of course, Monday's regular season game.

Her status in the team is currently unknown. South Carolina will be back in action on Sunday against North Carolina State in Charlotte at 3 p.m. ET.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
