College Football Live Updates: UNC leads Pitt 7-3 after Cost Pick-6

After back-to-back losses to James Madison and Duke, North Carolina needs an immediate course correction.

A win against Pittsburgh on Saturday at Kenan Stadium would help get things moving in the right direction. But the Panthers enter ACC play undefeated at 4-0, making them a slight betting favorite.

UNC's final game in Kenan was one of the program's most humiliating – the 70-50 loss to James Madison that left UNC's Mack Brown questioning whether he should continue as coach. Then last week in their ACC opener at Duke, the Heels took a 20-0 lead, only to have the Blue Devils – another undefeated team – score 21 unanswered points in the second half for a 21-20 victory.

UNC enters Saturday's game at 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the ACC. Pitt is 0-7 in games against UNC in Kenan after its first 5-0 start since 1991.

Bring it to the house

Opposing teams have tried to pick UNC's Kaleb Cost to compete at the star position. Cost made Pitt pay in the first quarter by intercepting a pass from Eli Holstein near the left sideline and traveling 84 yards for a pick-6.

Holstein tried to angle and overpower Cost, but the second-year player moved back to the right and scored.

It was UNC's longest interception return since Brian Walker's 100-yarder against San Diego State in 2014.

On Pitt's first drive, the Panthers converted a fourth-and-2 by isolating running back Desmond Reid on Cost for a pass completion.

The Panthers take an early lead

Pitt's Ben Sauls converted a 24-yard field goal after the Panthers' opening kickoff, then converted a fourth-and-2 play at their 43-yard line.

The Panthers pounced for a deep pass down the sideline – Eli Holstein to Konata Mumpfield for 43 yards to the UNC 7 – but stalled and made the field goal. Sauls hasn't missed a shot this season – he's 8-for-8 on field goals and 22-22 on PATs.

Injury update: Rucker is playing

Defensive end Kaimon Rucker returned to the UNC lineup on Saturday. The All-America candidate was injured while lifting before UNC's home opener against Charllotte and missed the final four games.
