Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter leaves the game against Kansas State with an apparent shoulder injury

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Colo Two-way star Travis Hunter left the Buffaloes game against Kansas State late in the second quarter Saturday night after suffering an apparent shoulder injury on a 14-yard reception.

Hunter went to the locker room and was not on the field when Kansas State kicked off the 60-yard touchdown drive that gave the Wildcats a 14-7 lead with 1:52 left in the first half.

Hunter returned to the sideline and stood briefly behind coach Deion Sanders before giving up his helmet and walking off the sideline again with a member of the team's medical staff.

Hunter took Shedeur Sanders' pass from a cross for a 14-yard gain at midfield and ran at full speed to safety Daniel Cobbs. He kept the ball but signaled to the sideline that he needed a replacement.

On the broadcast, ESPN said the medical team was examining Hunter's right shoulder, but there was no immediate word from the Buffaloes about his injury. A halftime press release said it was questionable whether Hunter and wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. would return with unspecified injuries.

Hunter has rarely taken a snap this season and is in the thick of the Heisman Trophy race.

Last season, Hunter missed three games with a ruptured liver after suffering a serious blow against Colorado State.

Hunter had three catches for 26 yards and a tackle Saturday night before his departure. That gave him 49 receptions for 587 yards and two touchdowns this season, as well as 16 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble on defense.
