Central Ohio voters could make history on Tuesday, and not just at the ballot box.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a mostly sunny day for Tuesday with a high of around 29 degrees. The record high temperature for November 5 is 77 degrees, set in 2022, according to the NWS.

Election Day won't be a perfect weather day, however, as southerly winds of 11 to 17 mph and gusts of up to 30 mph are expected. There is a 20% chance of rain after 1 p.m.

The NWS is forecasting a 90% chance of rain Tuesday evening with lows around 60 degrees. Rainfall amounts could range from a quarter to a half inch.

While the rain may not be ideal for standing in line to vote, it is necessary as much of the region is still suffering from drought, according to the US Drought Monitor. Southern and eastern Franklin County are experiencing extreme drought conditions, the worst in the region, while northern and western portions of the county are experiencing severe drought. A portion of the county on the far western edge is experiencing moderate drought.

In Ohio, much of the Appalachian Mountains is still in “exceptional drought,” the worst classification.

The NWS forecast calls for a very nice Monday with sunshine and high temperatures near 74 degrees.

After the election, the weather will remain warm. There is a 50% chance of rain on Wednesday with a high around 69 degrees and a 30% chance of rain on Thursday with a high around 67 degrees.
