Cost of Nina Dobrev's stunning 5-carat engagement ring revealed

After nearly five years of dating, retired Olympic snowboarders Shaun White and Nina Dobrev have gotten engaged. White announced the exciting news on Instagram on October 30, posting several photos of the surprise proposal and writing, “She said YES 💍♾️.”

According to Vogue, three-time Olympic gold medalist Dobrev had his publicist send a fake invitation to the CFDA dinner from the magazine's editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, to ensure that the actress would leave the Golden Swan in New York City that evening.

White, 38, proposed to the former Vampire diaries star with a 5-carat diamond by Lorraine Schwartz, Vogue reported. He told the outlet that he hid the massive ring in various places around the house for weeks so she wouldn't find it.

Photos from the couple's engagement quickly went viral as fans marveled at Dobrev's beautiful ring. Laura Taylor, a jeweler at Lorel Diamonds, told The Zoe Report that the estimated value of the ring is between $220,000 and $270,000, depending on the size and quality.

If it's a natural stone, Olivia Landau, gemologist and founder of The Clear Cut, told TZR that the ring could be worth up to $300,000.

Dobrev, 35, was completely taken aback by the suggestion. “I went into shock. “I froze and stared at him,” before saying, “No, no, no!” She recalled to Vogue, adding with a laugh, “I knew she was nervous because when she's nervous, she jokes.” She says, 'So wait, Anna's not here?'”

Dobrev also posted photos of the proposal on her Instagram page, writing, “RIP friend, hello fiancé 💍♾️.”

To keep the news a secret for a few days, Dobrev made sure to remove the engagement ring before leaving the house. But now she can't wait to show it off everywhere she goes. “I don’t want to take it off anymore!” she gushed.
