Countdown to Election Day 2024!

Countdown to Election Day 2024!

When it comes to election recommendations, the only influencing factor for SMART-TD is whether the candidate is WITH US or AGAINST US. We only take care of transportation and labor issues.

We do our homework on each candidate and evaluate their voting results to determine whether a candidate is on our side. The political party has no influence on support for SMART-TD.

All candidates we recommend have proven that they are on our side. As Election Day approaches, we're profiling some of the key lawmakers who deserve our support!

Mike Braun (R) and Tammy Baldwin (D): Supported by SMART-TD

Senator Mike Braun (R) Indiana

Candidate for Governor of Indiana

Co-sponsor: Law on equality and fairness for railway employees

Senator Braun crossed party lines and voted for paid sick leave for railroad workers. After the bill failed, he took action, holding a press conference with Sen. Bernie Sanders and SMART TD President Jeremy Ferguson to demand that Class I railroads provide sick leave or face public hearings. His advocacy led to several Class Is offering paid sick leave to our members for the first time.

Senator Tammy Baldwin (D) Wisconsin

I'm seeking re-election

Main sponsor: Reliable Railway Services Act

Main sponsor: Safe Trains Act

Senator Baldwin has been involved with SMART-TD in many of the legislative actions that this union has pushed forward. In the last two years alone, Baldwin has been the lead sponsor of several bills that hold railroads accountable and promote safety in our members' workplaces!

Don Bacon (R) and Ruben Gallego (D): Supported by SMART-TD

Rep. Don Bacon (R) Nebraska – 2nd

I'm seeking re-election

Co-sponsor: Several bills related to the safety of 2-person crews and rail vehicles

Rep. Bacon, a former U.S. Air Force general, has been with SMART-TD longer than he has been a member of Congress. During his four terms in the House, he has repeatedly stepped up to the plate, voting for and supporting legislation that benefited our bus and rail members. Bacon was a champion of this union and on November 5th we must stand behind him.

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D) Arizona – 3rd

Candidate for US Senate

Co-sponsor: Several bills related to the safety of 2-person crews and rail vehicles

Rep. Gallego, a Marine corporal who served in Iraq, has consistently supported two-man crew bills during his four terms in the House. He is now running to become Arizona's next U.S. senator. On November 5th, SMART-TD is asking for our members' support to bring this friend of railroad labor to the United States Senate!

Brian Fitzpatrick (R) and Chris Deluzio (D): Supported by SMART-TD

Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R) Pennsylvania – 1st

I'm seeking re-election

Co-sponsor: Railroad Safety Improvement Act of 2024

Rep. Fitzpatrick consistently advocates for workers in every critical legislative debate affecting the transportation industry. He advocates for the interests of SMART-TD members nationwide, making him a valuable ally.

Rep. Chris Deluzio (D) Pennsylvania – 17

As chairman of the House Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, Nehls held the only House hearing on railroad safety since the East Palestine, Ohio, rail disaster.

Representative Colin Allred (D) Texas – 32

Candidate for US Senate

Co-sponsor: US House Rail Safety Act, H.R. 8996

Rep. Allred has been a long-time supporter of our causes. He has demonstrated his willingness to stand against the corporate greed of the railroad industry and side with railroad workers.
